I just found this last night and I’m very tempted to try to buy it. I’d be lying if I said price wasn’t the main appealing factor. But I also like the size, and look if it. I’m also a fan of Yamaha bikes in general. This haft driven V twin bike looks like tir could be a lot of fun.

Oh and best of all it’s only about 15 minutes from my house.

Get a voltimeter and learn how to use it. Old 80s bikes are typically full of electrical gremlins hidden by a freshly charged battery. Also check the manufacturing date on those tires. If they’re in good shape, but old, this is a project that got sat on for a while and the guy got running just well enough to dump. “Quirky, rare, limited production bike” is just a fancy way of saying “Good luck finding parts!”

Looks like project bike hell waiting to happen. Price is hard to judge ; probably fine for a 6th or 7th bike.

“Only made for 1982/1983.”

Translation: “Good luck finding parts for this, homes!”

and charging systems tend to be the weak points on ‘80s Japanese bikes, with melted stator connectors not uncommon.

I’m right there with you. The temptation is strong with all the super cheap 80's Jap bikes out there. I just keep telling myself, “There’s a reason these things are all so cheap.”

This one is a looker, IMO, but also probably trouble waiting to happen.
